SPECIAL EVENTS

BTAB @ Boulder Public Library

Library Teen Advisory Board

Have a voice in what happens at your library! BTAB (Boulder Teen Advisory Board) is a teen library committee that meet once a month to organize teen library events, decide what will be added to the teen library collection and discuss ways to improve lives for Boulder County teens.

The group will meet the third Monday of every month at 4 PM. Check the BTAB Wiki or e-mail howardm@bouldercolorado.gov for meeting day. Participation in advisory groups looks great on resumes and college applications with the added bonus of positive change in your community.

Interested? Bring a volunteer application to the Teen Space and/or come to a BTAB meeting! Also you can visit the BTAB Wiki.

July 23, 6pm: Teen Outdoor Movie Night

Teens participating in Make Waves (our teen summer reading program) vote and choose a movie to show outdoors. Movie will show under the library, on the north side by the creek. This event will mark the end of teen summer reading.

July 26, 6:00pm: The Remus Lupins

Wizard Rock band The Remus Lupins come to the Canyon Theater at the Main Branch Library, howling for kids to support the Order of the Phoenix. The band's motto, "Fight Evil, Read Books" sums up their plan for defeating Voldemort, and they need your help.

The free concert by the California based band will feature fun Indie Rock music inspired by the adventures of Harry Potter and his friends (and enemies) at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. There is no better way to celebrate the world’s coolest boy wizard's adventures than to join everyone's favorite Werewolf in singing about Love, Friendship and the power of Rock!

World of Warcraft (WOW) at Game Night

The second Tuesday of every month, Game Night will host WOW in the Learning Lab. All eight computers will be updated with WOW and teens can play from 3-6.

ONGOING

Go Club

ask Colorado Image

Come learn to play the ancient and mysterious board game Go-- as seen in Hikaru no Go manga in Shonen Jump!

Go Club meets Sundays from 2:00-5:30pm in the Boulder Creek Meeting Room, Main Library.

Players: Check your ratings here. Updated weekly!

Go was developed 4,000 years ago in China and is played today by millions in Japan, China and Korea. The rules are so simple they can be taught in a few minutes, but it can take a lifetime to master the game. Skilled play requires mathematical analysis, tactical insight, intuition, and a sense of poetry. Like the Eastern martial arts, Go teaches concentration, balance, and discipline. Go boards are provided at the club, and take home sets made of paper are available for free to anyone who wants them. Come experience the magic of Go, while making new friends.

Check out the American Go Association's website

Game Night

Gaming for teens, aged 11-18.
Bring your decks and board games and play! Teen Space provides some games and snacks. Every Tuesday, from 3-6pm in the Teen Space or Boulder Creek Meeting Room.

Teen Art Gallery

The Teen Art Gallery at the Boulder Public Library features rotating exhibits in a space exclusively for art work created by middle and high school artists. We show a range of work including painting, photography, graffiti, sculpture, collage, found objects, writing and more.

We are currently seeking artists and collaborations for exhibits in 2010. We offer exhibit space one month at a time. You can submit a proposal on your own or with a group of friends. This is a fantastic opportunity to show work in a public venue, gain experience with art exhibitions, boost your college applications and résumé and get exposure for your school or community group.
